Presented a poster on my ongoing work with Thomas Nuttall, UPF, Barcelona at the fourth International Conference on Computational and Cognitive Musicology (ICCCM) at Wurzburg, Germany. This is an attempt to trace the evolution of Raga Begada over almost a century (1930-present) by manual annotation of phrases from the recordings we have, and calculating their prevalence. The initial results are promising in that they reflect the changes that Begada has undergone, as perceived in the music community (more information in the poster).
The conference gave me the opportunity to connect with researchers doing some very interesting work in the realm of musicology. The diversity of the musical forms represented in the conference challenged some of my perceptions about music in general, and helped me understand similarities and differences in the way it is studied across the world.
Huge thanks to Fabian C. Moss , Christof Weiß and all the others involved in organising this conference, for bringing together such a diverse group of researchers.
